WHAT HAPPENS AT THE INTERPERSONAL LEVEL IS A WAY TO UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE OF SOCIETY. RELATIONSHIPS ARE EVERYTHING.

I am deeply interested in the commonalities that connect people and communities to their cultural identities, and I apply these insights to develop strategies that are beyond multicultural- instead, they are truly intercultural. For over 20 years, I’ve been a consultant, executive, and researcher, helping to link the social capital of organizations with business opportunities for growth. Being bilingual and bicultural gives me the ability to recognize the common ground for successful innovation solutions more easily. Nothing beats that moment when I'm interviewing a person, and their eyes light up because they have a brilliant answer to one of my questions. That moment usually drives the innovation process later on.

For the last 30 years, I’ve helped clients anticipate what their customers want, so they can meet them in the future with the experiences and relationships they desire. I’ve been an owner of a film production company, a partner and head of experience design at Cheskin (a ground-breaking innovation firm), VP of Brand Strategy at Added Value (WPP), and a founding professor of the Design Strategy MBA program at CCA. Over the years, I've found people increasingly mysterious, with ever-changing sensibilities as cultures and economies evolve. Delving into what they're becoming, and what it means for the companies that serve them, remains as fascinating and stimulating as when I started down this path decades ago.

My journey, shaped by both academic and practical experiences, has instilled in me a deep commitment to community engagement and design principles within nonprofits and museums. From the University of San Francisco's Museum Studies program to my initial immersion in visitor services during my undergraduate years, I have cultivated a passion for community-focused design. Over six years, I have contributed to various organizations, from local historical sites to prominent institutions in San Francisco, championing community-driven methodologies and DEIA initiatives. As I evolve professionally, my steadfast aspiration is to empower and uplift communities through resonating, meaningful experiences.

With over 20 years of experience as a strategy consultant and leader in higher education, philanthropy, nonprofits, and businesses globally, I have worked with organizations of all sizes and individuals of every stripe to translate big and fuzzy ideas into tangible activities and impactful outcomes. I am currently the Deputy Director of WESTAF, a regional arts organization and long-time partner of Scansion. I'm a holistic thinker with a view to implementation, and the intersection of creativity, business and social impact is my sweet spot. I like working with creative people from producers to technologists and have been engaged in projects for clients ranging from UNESCO, Salzburg Global Seminar, and the Inter-American Development Bank to United States Artists and Think of Us, a research and design lab on child welfare.
